銘仙は、大正から昭和にかけて日本全国に広まり、女性の日常着やおしゃれ着として親しまれた着物です。特に北関東が主要な産地で、桐生、足利、秩父、八王子、そして伊勢崎が代表的な地域です。中でも、群馬県の伊勢崎銘仙は最大の生産地でした。奈良時代から続く養蚕文化を背景に発展し、明治から昭和にかけて日本の女性10人に1人が着ていたと言われるほど、多くの人々に愛用されていました。伊勢崎銘仙の特徴は、「併用絣（へいようがすり）」という高度な技法による独特な模様と鮮やかな発色です。この技法では、たて糸だけでなくよこ糸にも柄を染め、織る際に1本1本の糸を手作業で合わせることで、シャープで美しい柄を生み出します。しかしながら、現在は衰退し生産されておらず、とても希少な素材になっています。
